Oklahoma City to Amarillo

Unsure if any of you have knowledge of the 72oz Steak Challenge at The Big Texan Ranch in Amarillo. Famous for a number of You-Tubers having attempted it, but most famously Man v Food did it and succeeded. Trust me - it is obscene - but we headed there today!

Last night's meal down on the boardwalk in Oklahoma was awesome, so we all woke still feeling full! Calling the valet parking guy to bring the car round, we were soon on our way for what was a long but rather picturesque day in the car. It was evident though that the extreme temperatures we were encountering was hampering the operation of the dash cam and hence we had little footage that day.

Oklahoma to Amarillo is approximately 250 miles via Route 66, but does take upwards of 5-6 hours because of the slow going nature of the roads. However the countryside is beautiful and so that slow drive in the country was welcomed!

Lake Overholser Bridge and a whizz along the coast of the lake were the first proper PoIs, where I nearly fell foul of the odd rules regarding pedestrians. She indicated I transgressed once, then twice... in some sort of local dialect sign language!

Lucille's Old Historic Gas Station was next (they come along quite fast!!) followed by long straight roads into the wilderness that eventually took us into Texas. The One Room Jail is exactly what it says on the tin and is right on the OK/TX border. We were so tired at this point, we decided to head directly to Amarillo.

Big Texan Ranch Motel seemed the ideal place to stay since we were dining that night in the restaurant! Typical US Motel - good value and decorated really nicely. we had made a good decision of where to lay our fat bellies after what was about to come.

The food in the restaurant is top quality - I went for a 24oz Ribeye and have to say it was among the best I have ever tasted. I could only eat the steak though - the sides went wasted - which goes to show what an achievement completing the challenge is! It finished me off though and I hit the sack - Lynn and Ella spent some time in the gift shop and side shows of what is a top quality venue. 10/10.

All in all a good but quiet day, and I saw my second Cyber Truck in the car park!
