Albuquerque to Santa Fe

A short run today as we leave Route 66 and head north to get into the Colorado Loop, which for me is the first of the main highlights of the whole trip.

If you have never watched the show Longmire, I urge you to do so. It appears on all the main streaming services (Netflix, Prime, Paramount) and while it is set in Wyoming, it is actually filmed very near to here. Madrid NM is the location of the Red Pony bar in the show (all good shows have a bar, right?), and that was today's first stop - for a spot of lunch.

Madrid NM is a small town between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, but oozes character and style. Oh, and it was hot, so perfect for a cold beer and a burger.

After lunch, we had a short run again up to Santa Fe, the capital of New Mexico. I definite must see from all who have offered recommendations. It really is a truly relaxing place, and so we took advantage of the early arrival there to toddle into town and explore properly. An awesome cowboy hat shop took $100 from me for a hat I will unlikely ever wear again, but you know that it is excellent quality and a definite top level keepsake! This had a town that despite the heat, seemed like a very decent place to live and suited me! It is on my list!

Dinner on a verandah overlooking the town square (the restaurant is just above Ella's head in the photo below) with a couple of beers, and a wander back to the hotel where we sat on the balcony with a coupe, of bourbons and enjoyed the peace and quiet.
